Devouring The Kind Diet

Alicia Silverstone's The Kind Diet

Today I took a rare escape from my desk to walk to the library during lunch and pick up a book I’ve been eagerly awaiting that was finally on hold for me: Alicia Silverstone’s The Kind Diet.

Along the lines of Skinny Bitch, The Kind Diet talks about losing weight and saving the world by adopting a plant-based diet. The toll meat takes on our bodies is no surprise to me; I’ve been a vegetarian for 9 years. But both of these books are strongly pro-vegan and are filled with interesting information about the dairy industry that I tend to ignore–much in the way meat eaters ignore my vegetarian rants.

I already eat an almost vegan diet since yogurt is occasional, cheese is rare, and butter is non-existent in my kitchen, but I don’t expect to adopt the lifestyle or the label.

Then again, I’m only in Chapter 1. So we’ll see…

  2. Gah! This is my next book purchase at the Strand. I’ve been eying it for weeks but haven’t had the time to run by and pick it up. I follow her blog and enjoy it even though her writing is not my favorite.

Let me know how it goes!

  3. ive had the kind diet for over a month and havent started it yet. I REALLY must get on that- i have SO MANY books that i purchased when a bookstore near me was going out of business and decided to take advantage of the bargin prices and buy many books on my wish list.

im not a vegetarian or a vegan (i mostly declare myself a “flexitarian”), but a lot of days when im logging my meals i realize i did indeed eat vegan all day long – im wondering how the book will effect my decisions in food department. we should discuss this after we both read it!
